Moorflix Supporters

We couldn’t continue to show films in the Moorfoot Community withour your support. Putting a show on is very expensive and we rely on you attending and purchasing refreshments etc.

In May 2012 we were awarded two grants and received other funding…

Moorfoot Community Council/Scottish Community Foundation

We received a grant from the Scottish Hydro Carcant Community Fund to purchase cinema speakers that would improve the audio quality at each village hall.

This money was put towards 5 PA speakers, 1 Subwoofer and 4 speaker stands.

Awards for All Scotland

We received a substantial grant from Awards for All Scotland to purchase the remaining cinema showing equipment that we required.

Moorfoot Community Council/SSE

We have received a number of grants from the SSE Carcant Community Fund/Moorfoot Community Council for the following:

  • 2013 – Portable film showing equipment as a backup to our main equipment in case of failure, but also for use in the Moorfoot Village Halls for various community events.
  • 2014 – Funds to purchase blinds and blackout facilities
  • 2015 – Funds to improve the security of our equipment storage
  • 2016 – Funding to help with our annual costs
  • 2017 – Funding to help with our annual costs

Royal Bank of Scotland – Community Stars

One of the committee was an RBS employee at the time and was nominated for their Community Star programme which rewards staff who are involved in voluntary work. This included funds that were put towards the new equipment.

Moorflix would like to say thank you to all our supporters!

The Moorflix Committee and Helpers

Moorflix could not function without the efforts of the committee members who not only put in many hours preparing season programmes, attending meetings and purchasing refreshments, but also the time spent before and after film showings setting up or taking down.

Any help we receive after a film to tidy up is also greatly appreciated.

We think many hands make light work… and we are hoping that our audience can take their turn at a showing to either setup or take down maybe once a season. Please consider if you can do this and we can schedule a slot for you. We would envisage 30 minutes before or after a film would be sufficient.

Awards

Following our first ever season, we entered into 2 categories for the British Federation of Film Societies Annual Awards and were overjoyed to win the 2011 Jim Dempster Award for Innovation (for community filmmaking) and received a Commendation for the Best New Society. Considering we spent so much time getting the cinema up and running, it was fantastic to get this recognition.
